About Gair, Gair & Conason

Dedication, sensitivity and the commitment to personal service defines the law firm of Gair, Gair, Conason & Mackauf. Established in 1920, GGCS&M has enjoyed a long tradition of success and the respect of its peers.   From its inception, GGCS&M has limited its practice to handling major tort actions involving, among others, general negligence cases, construction accident cases, medical malpractice cases, product liability and civil rights actions.   Indeed, many of its members started working following graduation from law school and have remained with the firm throughout their careers.  The firm is often called upon to act on behalf of other law firms or solo practitioners seeking its expertise on particularly complex cases or sophisticated issues of law or simply for the purpose of retaining the services of a firm known in its field for getting the best possible result for their clients.  The foundation for its decades of extraordinary achievements can be attributed to its selectivity, structure and aggressive trial preparation.  Its effort to maintain its hallmark of high-quality personal service and thorough case preparation is accomplished by limiting its practice to only 100 new cases per year. Our clients always have immediate access to the attorneys handling their case.  Personal attention is our motto.

GGCS&M’s attention to detail begins with the selection process.  Each case is carefully screened and along with the consultation of retained experts, every claim is  investigated and discussed.  Upon acceptance of a case it is immediately assigned to a team comprised of support staff and a preparation attorney.    Assignments are made according to the nature of the case and the expertise of the legal team.   The diverse professional backgrounds of the firm’s 20 lawyers, including retired judges, supreme court and appellate court attorneys, defense attorneys, an assistant district attorney an emergency medical technician and licensed nurses, gives the firm a unique perspective for evaluating, preparing and trying cases.  At every level of the litigation process, each team has access to the firm’s own in-house team of appellate specialists, who in addition to handling the appeals, assist with analyzing and researching complex issues of law and the drafting of legal memoranda and motions.   Clients can feel secure in the knowledge that by the time their case is placed on the court’s calendar, their legal team is ready to take it to trial.   The institution and application of this team approach ensures personal involvement on a continuing basis and allows clients the opportunity to communicate directly with those most intimately familiar with their case.
The true measure of the firm’s success, however,  is evidenced by its long track record of impressive court victories and pre-trial settlements.  While no amount of money can ever replace what has been lost by injury or death, the noteworthy results obtained by the lawyers at GGCS&M provides the means for securing necessary medical treatment and for rebuilding and easing the lives of its clients and their families.  In the last 10 years alone, the firm has exacted compensation by verdict or settlement in more than 250 cases for amounts exceeding one million dollars.  Some of the firm’s most notable cases include:  $103 million verdict for a child injured at birth;  jury’s award of $17 million to a young man rendered disabled as a result of a failure to diagnose an anatomic anomaly; $12 million verdict for a traumatically injured bicyclist struck by a transit authority bus; and $8 million award to a man who lost his legs after jumping from an unguarded window in the psychiatric ward of a City-owned hospital.
While based in downtown Manhattan, the firm handles matters in every county throughout the State of New York, including all five boroughs of New York City, Long Island and the entire upstate region.  Demand for the firm’s personal injury expertise has also necessitated the opening
of a second office in Newark, New Jersey.  All cases are handled in an expeditious and effective manner while maintaining the highest ethical standards. Access to the Internet and individual attorney e-mail addresses enables the attorneys to respond quickly and efficiently to the needs of its clients. The firm is fully staffed with paralegal and administrative support and employs state-of-the-art support services and technology, including computer-aided research, document preparation and trial exhibits.
Firm members are widely recognized outside of the court room for their knowledge and expertise. Many partners and associates teach at leading law schools and author law journal articles and textbooks in their practice areas. They are regularly sought out to chair programs and participate in legal seminars, continuing legal education classes, and conferences held by national and state bar associations. ( SEE APPENDIX FOR LIST OF SPECIFIC PROGRAMS AND PUBLICATIONS).
The firm is listed in the Bar Register of Preeminent Lawyers and has the highest rating available from the  Martindale-Hubbell legal directory.
