Ernest R. Steigman

It would be nearly impossible to identify a case that Gair, Gair, Conason, Steigman, Mackauf, Bloom & Rubinowitz has handled over the past thirty years that has not been influenced by Ernie Steigman's leadership and guidance as the Managing Partner of the firm. Mr. Steigman handles predominately medical malpractice cases including cases involving obstetric negligence and brain damaged babies-- but he is also sought out by GGCSMB&R’s attorneys for his tactical advice on all types of cases, as well as for his perceptive legal acumen.

After graduating at the top of his class from NYU Law School in 1965, Mr. Steigman began his career working for the firm’s founder Harry Gair. Since that time, Mr. Steigman has spent his entire legal career at GGCSMB&R, where he has successfully imparted integrity, commitment to excellence and attention in the preparation of both general liability and medical malpractice cases. Mr. Steigman has continued this tradition by training some of the firm’s most prominent attorneys including Anthony Gair, Jeffrey Bloom and his son, Richard Steigman.

Mr. Steigman’s reputation among the defense bar and its insurance companies as a no-nonsense, forthright negotiator has led to a multitude of substantial settlements for their clients—a role in which he takes great pride. "It is very rewarding to play a part in helping our cases reach a successful conclusion after seeing them shaped and molded from the beginning." He has excelled in this area for over 40 years, during which time he has been responsible for many of the major settlements that the firm has achieved. In addition, he has been recognized both as a “Super Lawyer” and as one of the “Best Lawyers” in New York.

As a result of an ability to combine compassion for the injured parties and their loved ones along with a straightforward approach in assessing a case, clients are able to trust Mr. Steigman and have a sense of confidence that their legal matters will be handled with sensitivity and a commitment to excellence.

Mr. Steigman believes in giving back to the legal community and has lectured at both the New York Trial Lawyers Association and the American Association of Justice (formerly the American Association of Trial Lawyers) on personal injury litigation issues.
